This class assignment offered an exciting opportunity to reimagine the iconic spades suit of a standard deck of cards, with my inspiration drawn from the beloved British sci-fi series, Doctor Who. Striving for a balance between familiarity and innovation, I maintained the classic Bicycle playing card style for the face cards, infusing subtle yet distinctive elements that invite a closer look.
Preserving the original line weight and style, I incorporated shades of the official "TARDIS BLUE" color, infusing the TARDIS motif—the Doctor's iconic time machine—across the Ace of Spades and woven into the design of the number cards. The back and box of the cards feature the Gallifreyan language, adding an authentic touch to the Doctor Who-inspired aesthetic.
For the face cards, I selected the likenesses of Matt Smith's 11th Doctor, wearing the iconic fez and holding his sonic screwdriver aloft. Amy Pond and Rory Williams appear on the Queen and Jack cards, wearing recognizable outfits from popular episodes. Last but not least, River Song illustrated on the Joker Card adds a delightful twist, reminiscent of her unpredictable appearances throughout the series.
With an eye toward future possibilities, the project holds the potential for expansion, with plans to incorporate other beloved Doctor faces and supporting characters from different seasons into the remaining suits—a tribute to the enduring legacy of Doctor Who and its dedicated fan base.
